Ole Miss still has all its goals in front of it
The Rebels are in good position to go all the way to the top if they take care of their own business
The College Football Playoff released its first Top 25 rankings of the season on Tuesday night, and Ole Miss is within striking distance of the top at No. 11.
The poll is of little significance to Ole Miss if the Rebels lose to Alabama in a couple weeks, BUT if the Rebels were to pull the upset they are sitting in fine position to ascend.
As it is every year, November is the month the pretenders get separated from the contenders.
Most of the teams ranked ahead of the Rebels will lose in the coming weeks.
This weekend Tennessee plays Georgia. LSU plays Alabama. That’s two losers right there.
Later in the month Michigan plays Ohio State.
And that’s just to name a few.
Carnage is coming to the Top 10. You can count on that.
The Rebels just need to worry about their next game. All their goals are still in front of them.
Speaking of goals….
One of them is to win the SEC West.
For Ole Miss to do that we have to talk about Alabama.
Nobody likes Alabama. Nobody wants to think about Alabama. And gosh darnit, nobody wants to cheer for Alabama.
But it’s the elephant in the room (see what I did there?).
Alabama plays LSU this weekend.
Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss are currently in a 3-way tie for 1st in the SEC West with one loss each.
Ole Miss needs the Crimson Tide to beat the Tigers to break the tie-breaker that LSU currently has over the Rebels.
Plus, LSU will be favored against its remaining schedule at Arkansas, home against UAB and at Texas A&M. The Tigers might not lose another one.
So the best way for Ole Miss to have a shot at winning the SEC West is for Bama to take down LSU this weekend.
If that happens the matchup between Ole Miss and Alabama in Oxford on November 12 becomes truly enormous.
So hold your nose and pull for Alabama this weekend. Audible cheering isn’t necessary though. Not that anyone would ever do that.
